Anatomic Notebook

The structure of this piece is an attempt to integrate a diversity of different materials and strategies into a unified piece of music. Anatomic Notebook consists of 23 different pieces collected in three volumes: 5 Tutti-pieces, 5 solo-pieces and one volume of several pieces for duos, trios and quartets. In most of the work, two or more of these pieces are at play simultanously. As the title indicates, Anatomic Notebook is written in a "disordered" manner, without any overall plan for the piece. Some pieces are interrelated by different versions and developments of the same idea, whereas other pieces are totally independent and unrelated. Different moods, techniques and desires resulted in a kind of musical diary noted down during the course of two years, with an agglomeration of these diverse energies as unifying principle. In other words, there is a certain element of autobiography, where the chaos, superpositions and interruptions of life has become the guiding principle for the composition of Anatomic Notebook. And hopefully, the glitches between different approaches creates the tension and friction that I desire from music. It must also be  said that the version played at this concert is but one of several possible organisations of the Anatomic Notebook.
